Pineapple growers raise $65K for whales
Maui Land & Pineapple Co. Inc. raised more than $65,000 through hosting
Whale Quest Kapalua in February. The funds will benefit Whale Trust, the Center for Whale Studies and the Hawaii Whale Research Foundation.
Michelle Galvez, a junior at Sacred Hearts Academy, is a grand-prize winner of the Youth, Community Health Center Patient category of a national essay contest sponsored by the Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations (AAPCHO).
Galvez wrote about how Kalihi-Palama Health Center helped her to become a healthy and motivated person. AAPCHO is a nonprofit association dedicated to improving the health status of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific islanders.
The
Office of Hawaiian Affairs' television series, "Ho'oulu Lahui Aloha: To Raise a Beloved Nation," has won the year's best Native Hawaiian Show on 'Olelo Community Television's Channel 53. Produced by OHA staff since 2003, this is the second time the show has received first place. The series is a round-table discussion of native Hawaiian issues.
