Kuakini gets new surgical services director
Ka'imi Maka is the new managing director of surgical services at Kuakini Medical Center, overseeing ambulatory care and other services. He previously was a registered nurse providing patient care at Kuakini. Most recently, he was chief nursing officer at Hawaii Medical Center-East.
The Kent and Polli Smith Fund has awarded Imua Family Services $2,500 to support its three-year Early Childhood Development Program Demonstration project. Speech language, occupational and physical therapy are provided to children ages 3 through 5 who have developmental delays that are not severe enough to qualify for state Department of Education services.
Louis Vuitton Hawaii has donated $90,000 to the Hawaii Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific Foundation for its Louis Vuitton Creative Arts Session, a free program for patients and former patients to inspire physical and emotional healing through a creative outlet.
Pacific Islanders in Communications awarded $50,000 to Naalehu Anthony, a local public TV director who is producing a documentary about the voyage of the Hokule'a from Honolulu to Satawal atoll in the Caroline Islands. Anthony looks at the rebirth of non-instrumental navigation 30 years ago by recounting the life of Mau Piailug.
