Chaminade appoints 2 new regents
Chaminade University has appointed two new regents to its board.
They are Gae Bergquist Trommald, an executive vice president at Communications Pacific, and Dr. Edison H. Miyawaki, chairman, president, and chief executive officer of Family Health I and II, which operate skilled-nursing facilities in Honolulu. Bergquist Trommald, a former chairwoman of the board of the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, currently serves as a director of the State Health Planning and Development Agency. Miyawaki is a partner-owner of the Cincinnati Bengals and an investor in the Boston Celtics. He currently is chairman of the Board of Governors for the East-West Center and an adviser to Shiseido Co. and the Shiseido Social Welfare Foundation.
The owners of a commercial real estate company in Hilo donated $50,000 for an endowed scholarship fund for the
University of Hawaii at Hilo, according to a news release.
Linda and John Tolmie, who operate Tolmie Properties Ltd., donated the money in memory of their parents.
The John and Mary Tolmie & James and Fulvia Bailey scholarship will benefit full-time students in any field at UH-Hilo. Preference will be given to students who have graduated from high school in Hawaii and demonstrate financial need. The first scholarship will be given to a student enrolling this fall.
