Hawaii-Hilo picked to win conference
Hawaii-Hilo is the favorite in voting by conference coaches to win the softball title.
The Vulcans received four first-place votes.
Hawaii Pacific was the pick to finish second, and shortstop Crystal Plunkett was named as the preseason player of the year.
The Sea Warriors also placed four players -- Plunkett, outfielder Tajia Acierto, first baseman Nicole Kalakau and utility Puna Waiolama -- on the preseason All-PacWest team.
Designated player Brandi Sasaki of Chaminade also made the conference preseason team.
