STATE SCIENCE OLYMPIAD
The 4th Annual Hawaii State Science Olympiad took place Saturday at Leeward Community College. Groups from 18 schools took part in competitions designed to encourage students' interest in science and technology, promote teamwork and problem solving, celebrate students' and educators' achievements and improve schools' science curricula. Mililani High School and Highlands Intermediate captured their respective divisions. For more information visit

Conner Chung, 11, of Hongwanji Mission School transferred sand from one bucket to another bucket suspended beneath a structure she built during the tower building competition. The event tested the structural integrity of towers built from only craft wood and glue. Chung's tower stayed standing while carrying the total amount of sand available, 45 pounds.
