The city will present a $20,000 grant Friday to the Hawaii Arts Alliance that will go toward creating more activities by the Arts at Marks Garage.
Mayor Mufi Hannemann, whose priorities include transforming Chinatown into a historical and cultural area, will give Hawaii Arts Alliance the check at 7 p.m. Friday at the Arts at Marks Garage in Chinatown.
"The Hawaii Arts Alliance plays an integral role in the transformation of Honolulu's Chinatown for the better," Hannemann said in a news release. "These efforts not only help perpetuate the arts, but use the arts as a means to benefit the community."
Projects funded by the grant include creating more night and weekend activities in downtown Honolulu modeled after First Fridays, art exhibits and public performances, and art classes for residents and children.
