Former Hawaii-based commander promoted
Navy Rear Adm. Michael C. Vitale, former Navy Region Hawaii commander, has been promoted to vice admiral and will become the commander of Navy Installations Command in Washington, D.C. Vitale is currently serving as commander of Navy Region Southeast in Jacksonville, Fla.
In August 2006 Vitale left the job of commander of Navy Region Hawaii and Naval Surface Group Middle to command the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt and Carrier Strike Group 2.
Maj. Gen. Bernard S. Champoux, assistant 25th Infantry Division commander in charge of support in 2005, will become the chief legislative liaison in the Office of the Secretary of the Army in Washington, D.C. He is now deputy chief of staff for operations at International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan.
