Siemens Awards honor Hawaii scholars
Bo Hyung Yoon of Hawaii Preparatory Academy in Waimea on the Big Island and
Thomas Young of Punahou School were winners in the 10th Annual 2007 to 2008 Siemens Awards for Advance Placements in science and math courses.
Deborah Kula, a teacher at Sacred Hearts Academy, and
Iolani School were also named winners.
The Hawaii Association of School Librarians presented
Debora Lum, a retired Waikele School librarian, with its 2008 Golden Key Librarian Award.
Meredith Maeda, principal of Castle High School, was given the 2008 Outstanding School Administrator-Library Service Award.
ASSETS School received a $1 million endowment from the
Donald C. Brace Foundation to improve and maintain the Donald C. Brace Learning Resource Center, which consists of the school's library and computer system.
Wayne H. Muraoka, vice president of Armstrong Development Ltd., and
Mark H. Yamakawa, executive vice president and CEO of the Queen's Health Systems, are among 13 leaders in the U.S. selected to attend the 2008 Japanese American Leadership Delegation Program in Japan. The program is meant to improve understanding and strengthen long-term ties and cooperation between Japanese Americans and Japanese citizens.
