Hundreds of abused children get gifts
The
Children's Alliance of Hawaii delivered 1,095 gifts to 437 abused children on Oahu via donations. The Angel Project helps sexually abused children and their siblings, as well as children and families living in poverty. The nonprofit Children's Alliance also assists therapeutic and enhancement programs under the Children's Justice Center.
Ward Centers customers raised $109,000 to benefit more than 50 nonprofit and charitable organizations and schools through the holidays. The
Festival of Giving raised $75,370 for various charities;
Catholic Charities' Senior Giving Tree raised $14,300 to help senior citizens; The
Honolulu City Lights tours raised $10,900 for the
Hawaii Food Bank; gift wrapping services raised $6,500 to benefit
Habitat for Humanity and the
Lupus Foundation; Lunch with Santa raised $1,830 for
Law Enforcement Explorers; and Santa's Holiday Workshop raised $1,000 for the
Lokahi Giving Project.
The
NEC Foundation of America awarded $53,000 to the
University of Hawaii's Center on Disability Studies for a pilot study to determine the effectiveness of the Remote Accessibility Assessment System (RAAS) to people with disabilities in underserved areas.
