Activist Angela Davis to speak in Hilo

Activist and history professor Angela Davis will speak on "Race, Gender, Politics, and Prisons" Thursday at 7 p.m. in the University of Hawaii-Hilo Performing Arts Center.
The program is free and open to the public.
Davis was a member of the Black Panther Party and SNCC (the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee) during the civil rights movement. She also ran for U.S. vice president on the Communist Party ticket in 1980 and 1984. Davis is a professor of the history of consciousness at the University of California and presidential chairwoman at the University of California at Santa Cruz.
