Baughman lifts Rainbow Wahine
Courtney Baughman threw a shutout and the No. 14 Hawaii softball team beat Long Island 3-0 yesterday in Cathedral City, Calif.
Kate Robinson contributed to the scoring with a two-run home run.
The win pushed the Rainbow Wahine to 8-2. A 15-0 loss to Team USA later yesterday did not count against Hawaii's record.
Hawaii failed to get a hit in the exhibition and struck out 14 times in 18 at-bats. Jessica Mendoza and Lovieanne Jung each had three hits for the U.S.
Mason runs away with Hilo Invite
Former Hawaii-Hilo golfer Nick Mason shot a 68 at Hilo Municipal Golf Course to win the Hilo Invitational yesterday.
Mason finished the tournament 11 strokes under par. Jacob Low (5 under) was second, followed by Stephanie Kono (3 under).
Amanakis breaks Cooke Field record
Junior Thalia Amanakis broke a Cooke Field record by running the 60-meter hurdles in 8.71 seconds during the Terry Albritton Invitational on Saturday.
Senior Meghan Weaver placed first in both the shot put and weight throw.
The Rainbow Wahine track team travels to Nampa, Idaho, to compete in the Western Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships starting Thursday.
Rainbow Wahine fifth at UC Davis
Junior Angela Turnbull scored a game-high three goals to lead the fourth-ranked Hawaii women's water polo team past 11th-ranked UC Davis 6-5 yesterday at the UC Irvine Women's Water Polo Invitational in Irvine, Calif.
Hawaii outscored UC Davis 5-2 in the second and third quarters and held the lead despite allowing three goals in the fourth. Freshman goalie Serena Bredin made 10 stops.
Hawaii plays UC Santa Barbara at home March 15.

Vulcans split with Jayhawks
The Hawaii-Hilo men's baseball team split a doubleheader with Kansas yesterday, winning 4-3 and losing 16-4 at Simmons Field in Kona.
The Vulcans won three in the five-game series against the Jayhawks.
In the first game, Vulcans pitcher Brian Shannon went 5 1/3 innings, allowing three unearned runs while striking out six.
UHH relief pitcher Emil DeAndreis picked up his first win, and Michael Higa and Thomas Brown had two hits apiece.
The Vulcans play the UH-Hilo alumni Friday at Wong Stadium.
