Mason ties record at Hilo Invitational
Former UH-Hilo golfer Nick Mason finished the first round of the Hilo Invitational with a record-tying 63 yesterday at Hilo Municipal Golf Course.
Mason tied the course record set by Dean Wilson in 2002 and leads Kevin Hayashi and Stephanie Kono by five strokes going into today's second round. Lance Taketa (37-34--71) leads the senior division by five strokes over David Ishii and Chuck Davis.
Rainbow Wahine split in tournament
The Hawaii water polo team beat Long Beach State 10-6 in the UC Irvine Invitational in Calif. yesterday, but lost to California 11-9 in the next round.
Carmen Eggens led UH with four goals in the second game while Lisa van Raalte paced the Rainbow Wahine with three goals in the win.
UH women's tennis beaten by SDSU
Sophie Kobuch, ranked No. 67 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association beat Holly Bagshaw in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 at San Diego yesterday, but UH lost to San Diego 6-1.
Kobuch recorded the only match win for the Rainbow Wahine.
Hawaii swimmers finish third in WAC
The University of Hawaii swimming and diving team finished in third place at the end of the four-day WAC Championship, yesterday at Palo Alto Natatorium.
The Rainbow Wahine scored 574.5 points during the meet, which was won by Nevada who had 725.5 points. Diving coach Mike Brown took home co-coach of the year honors along with Nikki Huffman of Northern Arizona.
Clapp, Souza and Haraguchi at QB club
Acting University of Hawaii Athletic Director Carl Clapp will be the headline speaker at tomorrow's meeting of the Honoluolu Quarterback Club.
Kamehameha Schools Athletic Director Kanani Souza and Gail Haraguchi, the Deputy Director of the Department of Parks and Recreation, will also speak.
The Quarterback club luncheon will start at 11:30 a.m. at the Pagoda Hotel, Main Ballroom.

UH-Hilo sweeps Kansas in doubleheader
After a successful doubleheader yesterday at Simmons' Field, the University of Hawaii-Hilo needs just one more win today to win a series from Kansas.
Leading the way for the Vulcans was Ronald Trias who went 3 for 4 with three RBI in the doubleheader.
BYUH women overpower Chaminade
The Chaminade University women's basketball team is still searching for its first win of the season after suffering a close defeat to BYUH yesterday in Laie.
