Helemano Plantation benefits from grant

ORI (Opportunities for the Retarded Inc.) was given $5,000 by the Friends of Hawaii Charities in 2007 for the education, rehabilitation and training of adults with developmental disabilities at Helemano Plantation in Wahiawa. ORI also received $2,000 from Fidelity Charitable Gift Fund of Joseph and Cathy Wu.

The Domestic Violence Clearinghouse and Legal Hotline, renamed the Domestic Violence Action Center, received $15,000 from the First Hawaiian Bank Foundation.

Joan Danieley recently was named by Kaiser Permanente Hawaii to lead the organization's health plan operations, including membership services and provider contracting.

The American Dental Association recognized Dr. Russell Masunaga, owner of Ohana Dental Center, for significant outreach efforts to increase access to dental care. He is past chairman of the Hawaii Dental Association and one of the founders in 2001 of the Dental Samaritans, which he directs with volunteer dentists. Kim Koga, operations director of the Ohana Dental Center, also received a certificate of recognition from the Hawaii Dental Association for her work in organizing outreach efforts.
