Rainbow Wahine finish fourth
The Hawaii women's water polo team matched its ranking with its finish yesterday at the Stanford Invitational in Stanford, Calif.
The fourth-ranked Rainbow Wahine placed fourth, losing to the host Cardinal 10-6. Hawaii, playing its seventh match in five days, led 4-3 after the first quarter but couldn't hold off No. 4 Stanford.
Sophomore Ryan Hanson-Swaner led the Wahine (5-2) with two goals.
Earlier yesterday, Hawaii edged Michigan 8-7 to advance to the third-place match. Kelly Mason scored three goals against the Wolverines.
Nash honored for Transpac work
Longtime Transpacific Yacht Club administrator Cathie Nash was honored by the TPYC Friday for her 27 years of service to the club and to the bi-ennial race from California to Hawaii.
Nash, of Newport Beach, Calif., was appointed to her position in 1982. She has overseen the entries for the past 13 races.
Hilo splits with HPU in women's tennis
The Hawaii-Hilo women's tennis team, led by Christie Pagatpatan's comeback win at No. 2 singles, opened its season with a 5-4 victory over Hawaii Pacific yesterday at the UHH courts.
The Sea Warriors (3-1) earned a split with the Vulcans (1-1) when sweeping the doubles competition en route to a 5-2 victory in the second match.
» In a men's tennis doubleheader, HPU (3-0) defeated Hawaii-Hilo (0-2) twice yesterday, 5-0 and 5-2.
