WARRIOR VOLLEYBALL
UH volleyball team sweeps past alums
It was a night of celebration and remembrance, a time to honor the past ... and, in the case of the Hawaii men's volleyball team, a time to respect their elders without getting embarrassed.
Youth prevailed in front of some 500 at the Stan Sheriff Center last night, with the Warriors sweeping the alumni 30-26, 30-19, 30-28. Leading the varsity was Joshua Walker with 14 kills.
Alumni highlights included the always-entertaining Sivan Leoni (1995-98), solid setting by Kimo Tuyay (2001-04) and the overall play of Jake Muise (2001-04) with 15 kills and Chris Kosty (1998-99) with 14.
The event opened with an alumi-alumni match where Troy Hotz (1995-96) and Pono Maa (1983-86) helped the Green over the White, 30-24, 28-30, 15-10.
There was also a moment of silence to honor the late John Mau (1966-70) and Guy Jennings (1973), who had competed in every prior alumni match. Both men died last year.
