Hawaii music winners to be honored
Recording artists representing 31 styles of music will be honored next month when Johnny Kai and his Music Foundation of Hawaii present the 11th Annual Hawaii Music Award Winners' Banquet.
11th Annual Hawaii Music Awards
» Winners' banquet: 5 p.m. March 15
» Place: Willows Restaurant, 901 Hausten St.
» Cost: $50
» Call: 951-6699
|
The winners were determined by worldwide vote, with voting limited to once per day per e-mail address. Kai reports a record 94,748 votes cast by 30,456 people between Jan. 14 and Feb. 3.
Nominees do not have to be residents of Hawaii, and their nominated work need not have been recorded in Hawaii, released by a local label or distributed in Hawaii to be eligible.
As in previous years, categories come and go. One of last year's new categories, Dancehall Reggae, has been dropped; two added last year, for comedy and ska, are among nine in which the winner will receive a Recognition Award rather than a regular award, because they drew only one nominee each.
The winner in the New Artist category will be announced at the banquet.
