Warriors open states with win over Menehune

Gareth Gomez scored in the 44th minute for the match's lone goal to lead Kamehameha over Moanalua 1-0 as the JN Automotive/HHSAA Division I Boys Soccer State Tournament opened yesterday at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Park.

The Warriors advance to today's 5 p.m. match against third-seeded Kealakehe.

The other three first-round matches were equally close: Kaiser shut out Waiakea 2-0; Aiea edged Baldwin 1-0; and Roosevelt went to penalty kicks to score a 1-0 win over Castle.

In Division II, Ian Lactaotao scored four goals and Chance Bukoski two in Kapaa's 8-0 rout of McKinley.

In other matches, Hawaii Prep blanked Kailua 3-0; Kamehameha-Hawaii shut out Farrington 3-0; and Kauai held off Christian Liberty 4-2.
