Lee named Hawaii’s coordinator

The University of Hawaii announced today that Cal Lee is assuming a position many thought he would attain 13 years ago: defensive coordinator of the UH football team.
Lee, the most successful high school coach in state history, was a candidate for the Hawaii top job when Bob Wagner was fired after the 1995 season. When Fred vonAppen got it, speculation arose that Lee might be the DC. It didn't happen, and Lee continued to win Prep Bowls at Saint Louis School, where he compiled a career mark of 241-32-5.
After a stint as head coach of the Hawaiian Islanders pro arena team, Lee finally did arrive at UH, in 2003 as linebackers coach -- a position he mastered himself as a player at Kalani High School and Willamette University, where he earned All-America honors.
