Lumpkin officially in
New University of Hawaii head coach Greg McMackin made sure George Lumpkin had a 32nd season with the Warriors football team.
In a release today, McMackin officially named Lumpkin assistant head coach that allows him to work on different areas of the UH defense. As an example, Lumpkin may coach the cornerbacks in the spring, then shift to linebackers in the fall under his sixth head coach.
Lumpkin, 58, first came to the program in 1970 after transferring from Los Angeles Harbor junior college in 1970.
Under the watchful eye of June Jones, Lumpkin was the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator. He interviewed for the head coaching position that was eventually given to McMackin.
