They are both from the Leihoku Keiki Steps program and were attending the Champions for Children Day event at the state Capitol, which put a spotlight on the importance of early childhood education. The Keiki Steps program provided an example of a play-and-learn preschool group. Other organizations, such as Child & Family Service, YMCA and Head Start, hosted booths.

FBI Director Robert Mueller stopped in Honolulu on his return trip from Beijing, where he addressed security matters for the upcoming Olympic Games. Mueller, who spoke yesterday at the federal building, expressed appreciation for work done by local federal agents to prevent terrorism since 2001 and to fight public corruption, violent crime, mortgage fraud, child pornography and human and drug trafficking.
