Nurse Laurene Chun takes Kuakini post
Kuakini Health System appointed
Laurene Chun, RN, as its new director of nursing for Long Term Care. With more than 17 years of experience, she will manage Kuakini Geriatric Care Inc.'s 187-bed Intermediate and Skilled Nursing Facility. Chun previously was director of nursing at Kaiser Permanente's Long Term Care Facility.
The Korean American Foundation Hawaii paid tribute to five community leaders, including
Mayor Mufi Hannemann, for contributions to the Korean community.
The foundation also honored Dr. Kwan Jay Cho, founder and president of International Mid Pac College; Hawaii Schools Superintendent Patricia Hamamoto; Kathryn Whang Inouye, chief operating officer of the Kobayashi Group LLC; and Chief Justice Ronald Moon of the Hawaii State Supreme Court.
Daniel Liu, a senior at Le Jardin Academy, won the grand prize in the Mobi PCS Teen Video Challenge, which asked students to create and submit their own 30-second commercials. He won a free Motorola SLVR L7c cellular phone and a year's free unlimited wireless service from Mobi PCS.
Kai Patterson, a student at Niu Valley Middle School, was first runner-up. Their award-winning works will be featured on episodes of the "Brown Bags to Stardom" TV series on OC16.
