Marcus Holyfield, defensive whiz, is now Mr. Offensive Force.
The 6-foot-1 junior poured in a career-high 34 points as Mid-Pacific shocked No. 1 Punahou 66-48 last night at Hemmeter Fieldhouse.
MPI (2-6), which suffered through a string of illnesses during league play, had its regular starting five together for the first time in more than a month.
Holyfield was efficient, to say the least.
"It didn't seem like he had that many points. I was shocked when I found out he scored 34. Marcus got all of his points in the flow of the game," Owls coach Kevin O'Connell said.
His team shot 75 percent from the field.
Mid-Pacific junked its zone defense from the start.
"I don't think they expected that from us. Our guys really stepped it up," O'Connell added. "It's the first time we've beaten Punahou."
Kameron Steinhoff led Punahou (7-2) with 17 points, which lost sole control of first place in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu.
