Champions Tour donates to junior golf
In conjunction with this week's Turtle Bay Championship in Kahuku, the Champions Tour donated $5,000 to benefit Aloha Section PGA Foundation junior golf programs.
The Champions Tour is making weekly $5,000 donations to junior golf programs across the nation to coincide with each 2008 tournament.
Antelopes stop Vulcans in hoops
The Hawaii-Hilo women's basketball team fell to Grand Canyon 67-62 in a PacWest game yesterday in Phoenix.
The Vulcans (5-9, 5-2) rode a 17-5 run to a 36-24 halftime lead, but succumbed to the Antelopes, who went on a second-half rally.
Nesha Kimitete led the Vulcans with 16 points, and Sheila Azevedo added 12 points.
» Grand Canyon got 22 points from Brandon Dempser in a 77-72 victory over Hawaii-Hilo in men's basketball last night in Phoenix.
The Vulcans (8-6, 4-3) were led by Vince Alvarado with 25 points.
» Dixie State (Utah) romped over Brigham Young-Hawaii 73-53 in women's basketball last night at St. George, Utah.
Deney Phommabout led the way for the winners with 21 points. Lei Lolohea scored 10 points and pulled down six rebounds for the Seasiders (2-14, 2-5).
» Trenson Akana scored 23 points for Brigham Young-Hawaii in an 87-79 victory over Dixie State in men's basketball at St. George, Utah.
The Seasiders improved to 10-4 overall and 5-2 in the conference.
» Notre Dame de Namur defeated Hawaii Pacific 61-55 in double overtime in men's basketball last night at Belmont, Calif.
Justonn Smith led the Sea Warriors (4-13, 1-7) with 20 points.
» In women's basketball at Belmont, Calif., Notre Dame de Namur beat Hawaii Pacific 82-78.
Ashley Jenkins scored 27 points for the Lady Sea Warriors (3-14, 2-5).
