WAILUKU » Rough seas prompted the Hawaii Superferry to cancel its daily Oahu-Maui trip yesterday.
State Transportation Department spokesman Scott Ishikawa said winter swells also damaged the barge in Kahului Harbor used to help the transport of vehicles on and off the Superferry.
"We're going to be assessing the damage," Ishikawa said. "We don't know the extent of the damage."
As of yesterday evening the Superferry was booking passengers for today.
Winter swells were breaking at heights of 10 to 15 feet along the northern coastline of Maui yesterday and were expected to rise to about the same heights today, according to Maui Civil Defense.
