Rainbow Wahine lose in Nevada
Brandi Fitzgerald scored 21 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as Nevada dumped Hawaii 75-65 in WAC women's basketball last night at Reno, Nev.
Tanya Smith scored 14 points and grabbed 17 rebounds for the Rainbow Wahine (6-9, 0-2 WAC). The Wolf Pack improved to 11-4 and 2-0.
Hawaii moves on to Fresno State to play the Bulldogs on Thursday.
Smith leads Vulcans to road win
John Smith hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 24 seconds left in overtime to lead UH-Hilo over Hawaii Pacific 82-76 in PacWest men's basketball last night at the Blaisdell Arena.
Vince Alvarado followed with a pair of free throws and Jay De Maestri added two more to close out the Sea Warriors.
Hilo improved to 6-4, 2-1 in the conference while HPU drops to 4-10 and 1-4.
Hawaii swim teams lose at home
The University of Hawaii men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell to Minnesota and Wisconsin at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex yesterday. It was their final home meet of the season.
The Rainbow Warriors dropped to 10-2 in dual meet competitions this year, falling to both Minnesota and Wisconsin. The Rainbow Wahine completed their dual meet season at 7-6.
Emma Berry won the 200 free for the Wahine and divers Stephanie De Lima and Magnus Frick earned first-place finishes in the 1- and 3-meter springboard events.
Wilton, Wales at Quarterback Club
This week's Honolulu Quarterback Club luncheon will feature guest speakers Mike Wilton and Victor Wales.
Wilton, the head coach of the University of Hawaii men's volleyball team and Wales, the head coach of the university's swimming and diving teams, will speak about their current roster and season, along with the program's history.
The luncheon will begin at 11:30 AM in the Pagoda Hotel main ballroom, with the program starting at Noon.
Hilo women turn back Hawaii Pacific
A double-double from Hawaii-Hilo's Sheila Azevedo produced a 86-73 road victory for the Vulcans over Hawaii Pacific last night.
Azevedo led all scorers with 27 points and 14 rebounds in the winning effort.
