Whole Foods Market is adding more space to its first Hawaii store at Kahala Mall.
The natural foods chain has leased another 1,979 square feet of space vacated by the Patisserie and I Love Country Cafe.
The store's total size will now measure about 28,670 square feet, closer to the average store size of 32,000 square feet.
Whole Foods originally leased a 26,601-square-foot site, formerly occupied by Star Market.
The gourmet chain, which has about 200 stores in North America and the United Kingdom, expects to open the Kahala Mall store in the middle of this year.
Construction continues on what was originally planned to be Whole Foods' first Hawaii store, at General Growth Properties' Ward Village Shops redevelopment project.
The retailer also has announced plans for stores in Kailua and on Maui.
