As with most of these harbor shots, Daniel Kinoshita focused on the line where boat meets water. This photograph was taken at Kewalo Basin.

CAN you figure out the setting for these photographs? Huge clue: the fish at right.

If you guessed boat harbor, take a bow. The master of these mergings of the material world with abstract artistry is Daniel Kinoshita, longtime amateur photographer who took these shots at four harbors: Kewalo Basin and Ala Wai Boat Harbor in Honolulu; one in Homer, Alaska; and another in Camden, Maine.

How does Kinoshita derive art at a harbor?

"It's something I always look for: designs, color, form, line," he says matter-of-factly. "It's a habit I have with photography."

Good habit, Dan.

"I chose to shoot these photos for their color, patterns, and designs with boats, nettings, and lines being reflected in the water," Kinoshita says. The shot above was taken in Camden, Maine.
