The Coconut and Bamboo Festival at Ward Warehouse yesterday featured Japanese calligraphy demonstrations, performances by Halau O Na Pua Kukui, Balinese national treasure Nyoman Sumandhi and more. Imelda Gasmen, above, sold Filipino parol kits, tissue-paper stars with a bamboo frame. The festival was hosted by Temari Center for Asian and Pacific Arts in response to the interest in kadomatsu, the pine-and-bamboo good-luck ornament placed on the front door of homes.
