Work crews checked on trees near Pali Highway after a fallen 40-foot ironwood tree blocked two town-bound lanes yesterday. The tree fell at 6:40 a.m. yesterday between upper and lower Nuuanu Pali Drive, leading to three accidents that damaged 11 cars. Police closed the highway until 10 a.m. while the tree was removed. Police attributed the fall to soil erosion near the 100-foot tree's base.
