Weekly honors for UH's Smith
Two consecutive double-double performances earned Hawaii senior center Tanya Smith the weekly honor in women's basketball from the Western Athletic Conference.
At the Women of Troy Classic hosted last week by USC, Smith scored a season-high 21 points and had 12 rebounds in the loss to Portland State. In the win over Grambling State, she had 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Smith also was named to the all-tournament team, her third such honor this season.
Murakami turf work on track
The turf replacement project at Les Murakami Stadium is nearing completion, according to University of Hawaii officials.
The project is expected to be finished by Jan. 14, in time for the start of the spring semester, when the Rainbows will start spring workouts. Hawaii opens the season hosting a three-game series with Hawaii-Hilo Feb. 15-17.
