Let heaven and nature sing
If you happen to be on Maui, the Pacific Whale Foundation will be hosting a Full Moon Whale Song Serenade Cruise from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. today from Lahaina Harbor.
Passengers will hear the haunting, mysterious songs of humpback whales on underwater hydrophones while enjoying hot and cold appetizers -- including teriyaki chicken strips, meatballs in marinara sauce, vegetable crudité platter with warm artichoke and spinach dip -- on deck. The ticket price also includes beer, wine and mai tais, plus soda and juices, and guests will go home with a free whale poster.
The cruise cost is $49.95 for adults and $34.95 for ages 3 to 12. Pacific Whale Foundation members save 20 percent. Call 249-8811, ext. 1.
Rest easy with carbon credit
Destination Resorts Hawaii appears be the first resort to make a move toward preserving Hawaii's environment through a unique Maui travel package that includes a $250 carbon credit. Carbon credits certify the removal of greenhouse gas from the air or the prevention of future greenhouse gas emissions.
The Honua Makuahine (Mother Earth) vacation package offers five nights' lodging, a complimentary Dollar rental car, free parking and a $250 carbon credit per booking, which offsets an average of 3.5 round-trip flights from Los Angeles to Hawaii, based on calculations from www.carbonplanet.com.
The offer is valid April 1 through June 15. Package rates start at $1,080 based on lodging in a one-bedroom condominium.
Prices vary depending on the unit size, and guests can choose up to a three-bedroom vacation rental.
To book, call (866) 901-0988 or visit www.drhmaui.com. Use the promotional code GREENPKG.
