More than 1,100 foster children and their families, about 700 volunteers, Santa and Mrs. Claus and elves were on hand yesterday for the ninth annual Foster Family Programs of Hawaii holiday party at the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall. With several Bangladeshi physicians observing, Lt. Col. Chris Klem of Tripler Army Medical Center performs ear surgery in Bangladesh while Spc. Andrea Miller assists. Army doctors and support staff from Tripler traveled to Bangladesh this month for a humanitarian mission titled Sight, Sound and Smile, according to an Army news story. The team of seven medical personnel from Tripler teamed with army physicians from Bangladesh to treat civilians at the Combined Military Hospital. The surgical team treated 44 patients for cataracts, chronic ear disease and cleft lip and palate. The Tripler team also trained the Bangladeshi army doctors to do the surgery themselves.
