Easy-care jewelry for kids and adults
If you're the rough-and-tumble sort who can't wear jewelry because you're afraid it'll get banged up, look no further than Yarn Confections, created by "confectioner" Wendi Lau, who has devised easy-care jewelry for children and adults.
The Leeward resident came up with the idea while dealing with her two busy little daughters and when shopping was always on the lookout for clothing, bags and accessories that were washable.
Her woven Shiny She necklaces ($35) and bracelets ($17) of soft, flexible rayon cord, and crocheted Keiki Lei ($10 to $16.50) made of soft cotton yarn fit the bill.
I especially like her crocheted flower Fun Rings, which she's selling online at two for $8 to a batch of five for $20. Visit her store at yarnconfections.etsy. com.

Wear T for TREE
T&C Surf has created a limited-edition benefit T-shirt aimed at raising awareness and money for TREE Center Hawaii.
The shirts, selling for $19.50, feature the slogan "Native Hawaiian Roots," along with a curling wave and a koa seedling. The design incorporates elements of Hawaii's ecosystem and draws attention to native Hawaiian forests. It ties into the TREE Center's mission to propagate the few remaining native Hawaiian dry-land forests.
T&C Surf has joined the growing number of retailers nationwide who have started green initiatives, from changing in-store lighting to conserve energy to installing shelves made from recycled materials. In keeping with this goal, gift boxes will no longer be available at the stores.
The shirt is available at T&C Surf locations at Ala Moana and Pearlridge centers, Kahala Mall, Ward Warehouse and Windward Mall.
The Big Island-based TREE (Tropical Reforestation & Ecosystems Education) Center Hawaii is a nonprofit dedicated to the conservation of and education about native Hawaiian ecosystems. Find more information at TREEHawaii.org.
