A Fort Shafter soldier died Monday from a non-combat-related incident in Taji, Iraq, according to Army officials.
He was identified as Pfc. Juctin R.P. McDaniel, 19, of Andover, N.H.
The Army did not release details of the incident, saying only that the circumstances were under investigation.
McDaniel joined the Army in November 2006 and was assigned to Schofield in April. He deployed to Iraq in November with the 524th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion as a power generation equipment repairer, the Army said.
McDaniel's unit will be in Iraq for 15 months, the Army said. McDaniel is the first member of the unit to die since the deployment began.
