Landscaping is fit for Queen's
The
Queen's Medical Center received the Grand Award in the Professional Grounds Management Society's 2007 Green Star Awards competition. Landscape developer
Mark Gwinner accepted the award on behalf of his staff for exceptional maintenance of "a slice of paradise," a release said.
Ruth Antone is the winner of the Fourth Annual Suzanne Richmond-Crum Award from the state Department of Health's STD/AIDS Prevention Branch. She was recognized for her 20 years of contributions to the field in Hawaii, first with the Life Foundation, the state's largest HIV/AIDS service agency. Antone is now program director at Gregory House, the only HIV-designated shelter in Hawaii.
The
Friends of the Library of Hawaii named
Kathleen Ageton, Youth Services Librarian of the Kihei Public Library, the 2007 Public Librarian of the Year.
Borders Books & Music, corporate sponsor of the award program, presented her with a $1,000 check, and the Friends group, $500, to be used for the Kihei library.
Other members of the state system received Excellence in Service Awards, including Lisa Cabudol of Naalehu on the Big Island, Lawrence Nihoa of Kapolei and Debra Wong Yuen of Pahala Public Libraries, also on the Big Island. Their $500 prizes will go to each of their library branches.
