Santa hits the sandDENNIS ODA / DODA@STARBULLETIN.COM
Normally, Santa visits Waikiki aboard an outrigger canoe, but because of yesterday's big surf, Santa had to settle for taking pictures with everyone in the Outrigger Waikiki and then walking the beach, greeting and taking pictures with his fans. Santa was popular with the girls and posed for pictures as he walked the beach fronting the Outrigger Waikiki yesterday.

Singing the praises of land preservationCINDY ELLEN RUSSELL / CRUSSELL@STARBULLETIN.COM
Jack Johnson addressed the audience after performing "Better Together" during an event yesterday celebrating the successful acquisition and protection of Pupukea-Paumalu land on the North Shore. The community celebration at Sunset Elementary School honored the partnerships formed during the past two decades to purchase and manage the 1,129-acre property from the Obayashi Corporation which originally had plans to build a residential subdivision on the land. The transaction finally came together as a result of various state and government agencies working together with the support of the community, private donations and the stewardship of nonprofit agencies, leading the way to the historic $7.95 million purchase.
