Police chief to return to work on Dec. 24
Police Chief Boisse Correa is expected back to work on Christmas Eve after being out on leave since August because of his back.
Correa had been recovering from back surgery he had Oct. 19 at the Queen's Medical Center. Correa has been on injured leave since Aug. 31 because of an unspecified back injury incurred during work.
The chief will be returning to the office Dec. 24 and will transition back into a full-time schedule, per his doctor's orders, said Honolulu Police Department spokesman Capt. Frank Fujii.
"He's really looking forward to coming back to work, and he thanks everyone for their patience and understanding," Fujii said.
Correa has declined to comment on the specific nature of his injury and back ailment. October's surgery was his third. Correa also had back surgeries in April and August last year.
Deputy Chief Paul Putzulu has been in charge since Correa's leave began.
