School shouldn't have punished the victim
According to yesterday's article "
Beaten girl suffers school discipline," the victim was attacked by 14 girls. During the attack, the victim called one of the attackers a "slut," so the school suspended the victim. What kind of justice is this? Not only are we not supposed to defend ourselves physically, but apparently we cannot even express our pain and outrage verbally.
Name-calling should be discouraged, but let's get realistic; sometimes that's the only defense we have.

School administrators have it backwards
How appalling that a little girl gets her head bashed in by a group of unsupervised brats, but then has to be punished for saying "slut" while being getting attacked! What kind of backward school administration is this? Those attackers need to expelled, or at least suspended for awhile. No child deserves to fear going to school.

No Peeping Toms? That's going too far
In response to Cal Nakamura's criticism of your use of the phrase "Peeping Tom" (
Letters, Dec. 4), calling it a sexist term: Just when you thought political correctness could go no further, common sense has finally been pushed over the edge. Never mind that the article explains how a suspected perverted individual was taken off the streets, let's focus on the commonly used word used to describe such individuals.
Normally, political correctness is used because a certain term is offensive to a group. Perhaps we need to look further into things from now on. Take for example the TV show "Star Trek." In a bow to political correctness, please join me in boycotting this show -- after all, it opens every episode with "To boldly go where no MAN has gone before!"
Relax, Mr. Nakamura, I seriously doubt that the mentally challenged perverted persons who hide in bushes while watching unknowing females undress are insulted.

Who put the Grinch in charge of buses?
Everything Art Mori says about the so-called bus improvements in Tuesday's "
Gathering Place" is also true for the Hawaii Kai area. During the Nov. 27 neighborhood board meeting, Greg Moir, the representative from the city Department of Transportation Services, said we all need to adjust. I guess he means to adjust to diminished service as well as idiotic bus routes. The effect of all this will mean less ridership, which DTS will use as justification for more cuts.
All of this is probably happening because the bus administrators have mismanaged the additional funds supplied to them since the bus strike. Remember when a monthly bus pass was $25? Now it's $40.
This Christmas Grinches are alive and well at the city's DTS.

Surfers should blame protesters for hassle
Surfers should have known about the closing of the surf area for the Superferry when the idiotic protesters protested the ferry system. Now the Coast Guard has closed off these areas for safety reasons when the ferry pulls into Maui's Kahului Harbor ("
Security for ferry upsets protesters," Star-Bulletin, Nov. 28).
If you surfers don't like what's happening, go after the real culprits -- the protesters. They opened up a can of worms. Furthermore, what are they doing to stop these invasive species coming in on planes and containers? I think the Sierra Club and the other groups protested to stop people from coming into Maui and Kauai. The people are the invasive species they are talking about.
The moral of this story is that this very small minority of protesters on Maui and Kauai should think before they open their mouths. Now they have created this big problem. Not the Superferry. Give it a rest.

Believe in the great 808 Warrior State
I wanted to thank Coach June Jones and the Hawaii Warriors for a great football season. You preached and demonstrated the power of positivity with "BELIEVE" to achieve your dreams. I also thunderously applaud Jones for defending Colt Brennan against a brow-beating national media that belittled the skill of a great quarterback from a relatively poor school compared to wealthier BCS schools. Jones demonstrated on national TV how school teachers, mentors or parents should always defend and support their students and children without hesitation when unfairly treated by others.
Great job, Coach Jones, you are adored for always supporting, teaching and guiding your warriors to excellence and achievement despite heartaches. Your action with the national media were louder than your words. You are a good role model and a great coach. May our God in heaven and our Polynesian gods continue to bless you and our Warriors against all odds. Aloha and manuia tatou.

Boise fans have a new team to cheer
I live in Boise, Idaho, and I'm a Boise State fan and will always be. You guys whipped our butt this year and treated our fans who came to your island for our game with respect and dignity. From now on, because of your class, until after you whip Georgia, I, along with most of the rest of Boise State fans, am a Hawaii fan.
Go Rainbow Warriors and whip Georgia's butt. Show the world that last year was not a fluke.
