Warriors eighth in preseason poll

The University of Hawaii men's volleyball team is ranked eighth in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation preseason volleyball poll released yesterday.

Landing the top spot was Pepperdine, last year's conference regular-season champion and runner-up in the MPSF tournament.

The Warriors return hitters Matt Vanzant, Jim Clar and middle blocker Matt Rawson, who ended last season averaging 1.40 blocks a game, fifth in the MPSF. However, the Warriors lost former All-Americans Brian Beckwith, Lauri Hakala and Dio Dante to graduation.

Lady Swords fall to Seawolves

The Chaminade Lady Swords lost to the fifth-ranked Seawolves of Alaska Anchorage 92-53 last night at McCabe Gym.

The Seawolves held the Lady Swords to 26 percent shooting from the field and outrebounded them 56-23. Felicia Alves led the Lady Swords with 11 points. With the loss the Lady Swords fell to 0-3 on the season.

BYUH jumps 4 spots in poll

The BYUH men's basketball team moved up to No. 16 in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches Division II poll yesterday.

Last week, the Seasiders were ranked No. 20 in the poll, but after winning the Tarp It Tip-Off Classic in Washington, the team received 66 points, 17 more than last week.

Last night, the Seasiders picked up a win against Henderson State, 96-62, at Laie. The Seasiders were led by Lucas Alves, who had 28 points and nine rebounds.
