$60,000 goes to independent producers
Pacific Islanders in Communications (PIC) has awarded more than $60,000 to independent producers who tell authentic stories about the Pacific and what it means to be a Pacific islander.
This year's Research and Development Award went to "Pa Kui A Holo -- Kauai's Warriors," produced by T. Lulani Arquette; and the Production Award, "Women on Waves," by Karin Williams.
PIC is accepting applications for its Media Fund 2008 Open Call awards, available at www.piccom.org. For more information, contact Shane Seggar at sseggar@piccom.org or 591-0059.
The National Tropical Botanical Garden received $125,000 from the McInerny Foundation to construct a Botanical Research Center on Kauai. It will be the first building on the island to be certified by LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), and one of the few in the state.
The two-story 20,000 square-foot structure will cost $14 million, but the organization has raised more than $11 million so far.
