Isle artists offer unique options for holiday presents
Tired of giving boring cookie-cutter gifts? Because really, how many potholders can Aunty really use? How many handkerchiefs does Grandpa actually need? There is a solution.
This year, more art galleries than ever are holding their own holiday sales, often at pocketbook-friendly prices. The Balcony Gallery, for instance, is holding its "Out of the Sketchbook 3" sale that features "original art ... for under $200." Over at the Hawaii Craftsmen's Gallery Sale, they want customers to know that "little elves from the North Pole DID NOT make this artwork but artists living in Hawaii DID."
Be the bearer of some truly interesting presents this year. The list below should start you on your way:
» "A Christmas Fantasy": Art and craft sale by students at Windward Community College featuring prints, paintings, photography, fiber art, handmade jewelry, wall hangings, greeting cards, ornaments, woodcarvings, stained and etched glass, mosaic tiles and more. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, Gallery Iolani on the WCC campus.
» Hawaii Craftsmen 2007 Annual Gallery Sale: Features work by members. From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays to Saturdays through Dec. 29 (First Friday event extends hours to 9 p.m.). The ARTS at Marks Garage, 1159 Nuuanu Ave., 521-3282.
