Sprint Nextel wireless customers now have easier access to Hawaiian music.
Songs from Honolulu music company Mountain Apple Co. can be downloaded directly to Sprint wireless devices for 99 cents each with a data plan, Sprint said yesterday.
Albums include "Wonderful World," "Facing Future" and "Alone in Iz World" from Israel Kamakawiwoole and "The Best of the Brothers Cazimero Vol. I and II" from the Brothers Cazimero.
Sprint is the first wireless provider offering songs from the Mountain Apple catalog for direct download, Mountain Apple President Leah Bernstein said. The company eventually plans to offer its catalog of more than 500 albums through Sprint, she said.
Sprint offers more than 2 million songs for download through its Sprint Music Store. Downloads without a data plan are $2.50 per song, plus data charges of $0.03 per kilobyte.
The agreement with Mountain Apple is not exclusive, according to Sprint spokeswoman Kathleen Dunleavy.
Mountain Apple titles are also available to users of Apple Inc.'s iPhone, via WiFi access to the company's iTunes store.
