Police still looking into death at lighthouse
Question: What ever happened to the police investigation into the death of 18-year-old punk-rocker Yesuah Boerstler, who died from head injuries at Pauwela Lighthouse on Maui?
Answer: Maui police Detective Ronald Hiyakumoto said the death investigation is continuing, and he invites people who might have information to call the criminal investigation division.
Hiyakumoto said police have interviewed more than 100 people and have not determined whether it was accidental or a murder.
"We're looking at all angles," Hiyakumoto said. "We don't want to limit ourselves to one aspect."
Boerstler died on the evening of July 28, 2006, at Maui Memorial Medical Center, two days after he went to a birthday party at the Pauwela Lighthouse attended by 50 to 60 people.
A jogger found him lying on the roadside near the lighthouse the morning after the party.
Police said an autopsy showed he had head injuries caused by a vehicle running over him.
His mother, Fatima Negron, has said she believes her son was murdered, and has publicly pleaded for people to speak out.
Some of his friends have said that they believe Boerstler was killed because of his punk-rock appearance, with skin-tight pants and black leather jacket.
Boerstler lived in Kihei and had dropped out of King Kekaulike High School as a freshman.
He was working on his GED and played drums and sang with a punk-rock group called the DCs.
A memorial concert at Life's a Beach Restaurant & Bar a year ago drew more than 100 people.
