UH-Hilo's Hurley honored by AVCA
Hillary Hurley, a 6-foot-2 outside hitter for Hawaii-Hilo, has been selected the AVCA Freshman of the Year.
Hurley started 27 out of 28 matches for the Vulcans and had 343 kills, 37 service aces and 81 digs. Along with Hurley, Vulcans sophomore Fabiane Seben was named as an honorable mention for the Pacific Region team as a middle blocker.
Prep runners on the move
Hawaii state cross country champions Kristin Ali Keith and Bryce Jenkins are headed to the Foot Locker Western Region Cross Country Championships in Walnut, Calif., on Dec. 1.
The two are being provided financial assistance for the trip by The Honolulu Marathon Association. The association will also help cover the cost of one adult to travel with each runner.
Keith will be participating in the sophomore race and Jenkins will take part in the seeded race. The top eight of the seeded race will advance to the national championships on Dec. 8 in San Diego.

Hawaii Pacific improves to 2-0
Hawaii Pacific hammered Golden State Baptist (Calif.) 81-39 in men's basketball last night to improve to 2-0. Up next for Sea Warriors is Sonoma State in the first round of the Mac Martin Tournament at Chico State (Calif.) on Friday at 3:30 p.m. Hawaii time.
