Missing macaw has owner distraught
Bruce "the Bird Guy" McGonigal is offering a $100 reward for the return of a 12-year-old blue and gold macaw, named Marley, who has been photographed with celebrities such as Don Ho and Willie Nelson.
McGonigal hopes someone might have information about Marley, which he believes was stolen from his Kamehameha Heights home the night of Nov. 7.
"It would never have taken off at night," he said.
McGonigal used to have a stand at Aloha Tower Marketplace, where his birds would pose with customers for photos. They now appear at the Crouching Lion Restaurant.
McGonigal and Rocko, her macaw mate, have been devastated by her disappearance.
"It's like a child, yeah," said McGonigal, who has had Marley for 10 years. "I'm bound and determined to get her back. I'm hoping good things are going to happen with this message."
Marley, an unusually friendly parrot, loves to roll on her back and be cradled, McGonigal said.
She is microchipped and can be scanned for identification.
McGonigal said he filed a police report, but police have told him there's little they can do because there were no witnesses.
Anyone with information on a parrot fitting the description is asked to call police or contact McGonigal at 386-8606 or at birdguyhawaii@hotmail.com.
