‘Dark Blue’
A Japanese-born photographer loves the color and light of Hawaii
Shuro Matsumoto enjoys the way photography affords him a different way of looking at the world: through light, color and unique angles.
In a continuing series of work that focuses on color, Matsumoto is exhibiting "Dark Blue" at Canon Photo Gallery through Nov. 29. The show is a collection of shots from neighbor island trips and his "ordinary life on Oahu," and showcases the scenery of the isles through dramatic natural settings in various hues of blue.
Next up is his series on red.

Matsumoto, who owns a photography business in Honolulu, was born and raised in Japan. He discovered his love of the medium early in life via his father's camera, and by age 18 he knew he would make a career of it.
After graduating from Tokyo Visual Arts Academy, then working for photographers in Japan and Italy, Matsumoto began his career as a freelance photographer in Japan's commercial and fashion industry. His work has been showcased in Japanese magazines and ads.
Today, Matsumoto focuses primarily on bridal photography, but he has the occasional brush with fame shooting portraits for celebrities.
Canon Photo Gallery, located at Ward Plaza in Suite 200, is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. Call 522-5930.
