Handbook gives data on all VA facilities
Question: Where can I find information about the Department of Veterans Affairs when the facilities are closed?
Answer: The VA annually publishes a handbook that provides updated information about VA health care, burial and memorial services, home loans, education and training, and VA pension. The handbook, "Federal Benefits for Veterans and Dependents," also contains the addresses and phone numbers of every VA facility in the United States. It is available on the second floor of the VA Medical Center at the registration desk. In addition, information can be found on the VA's Web site www.va.gov.
Q: I heard the VA is able to convert a service member's life insurance policy to a VA policy. Is that true?
A: Yes. A Service Members Group Life Insurance policy can be converted to Veterans' Group Life Insurance up to the amount of coverage the service member had when separated from service. Veterans must submit an application within 120 days of separation. Veterans who sustained a traumatic injury may qualify for Traumatic Service Members Group Life Insurance. Veterans who were discharged under other then dishonorable conditions and have a service-connected disability may apply for Service-Disabled Veterans' Insurance. Veterans who are severely disabled and have been approved for a specially adapted housing grant may apply for Veterans' Mortgage Life Insurance. For information about these policies, call (800) 669-8477 or visit www.insurance.va.gov.
