RESTAURANT REPORT
Tastes of Zippy's inspire fine dining
Wade Ueoka began his cooking career working at Zippy's. He now works in the much more rarified atmosphere of Alan Wong's King Street restaurant as chef de cuisine, but he's paying tribute to his roots with a Zippy's-inspired dinner on Nov. 28.
The menu: Burger and Fries (made with foie gras and guava ketchup), Kona Lobster Chili, Won Ton Mein (butterfish in a garlic-pork broth) and Beef Curry (beef tenderloin with curried parsnips and celery root). Pastry sous chef Michelle Karr's dessert is a version of Zippy's Napples (apple galette with apple-spiced latte).
Cost is $75, $105 with wine pairings. Call 949-2526.
Space is available for food fundraiser
Oahu Dines has 13 slots left for restaurants interested in participating in the annual fundraising event for the Life Foundation.
Twenty-five restaurants will join in the event on Feb. 27, donating a portion of their proceeds for that day to the Life Foundation's on behalf of those with HIV/AIDS. Last year's event raised more than $15,000.
To sign up call Kandice Johns, 521-2437, ext. 250, or e-mail kjohns@lifefoundation.org.
