Heinemann, Bode advance in tennis
University of Hawaii tennis player Sascha Heinemann and Hawaii Pacific's Henrik Bode advanced yesterday by winning second-round matches in the qualifying draw for the Honolulu Futures Tournament.
Heinemann beat Hong-Tae Kim of Korea 6-4, 6-2, and Bode topped Kai Ohuchi 7-6 (2), 6-1.
Both Heinemann and Bode are from Germany.
Former Hawaii Pacific player Jan-Axel Tribler also advanced by beating Ross Sugiyama 6-0, 6-0.
Corley keeps Honu cruising in HWB
Pittsburgh Pirates prospect Brad Corley hit a solo home run and drove in another run as the North Shore Honu dropped the Waikiki BeachBoys 7-5 in Hawaii Winter Baseball at Hans L'Orange Field yesterday.
The Honu (22-10) have already clinched a spot in the championship game. Waikiki improved to 15-17.
Matt Gamel had three hits and two RBIs for the Honu. Sean Walker picked up the win with three scoreless innings of relief and Takashi Kamoshida struck out league RBI leader Michael Wilson to earn his fourth save of the season.
» West Oahu's Fumikazu Kimura and Reid Santos combined to shut out the Honolulu Sharks 3-0 in the night game. Anthony Hatch went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs for the CaneFires (10-20). The Sharks fell to 15-16 but stayed a game ahead of Waikiki in the East race.
