Church concert to mark holiday
A Kailua church will turn its Sunday service into a free concert next weekend to put people in the Thanksgiving holiday spirit.
The "Thanksgiving Festival of Hymns" will be at 9 a.m. Nov. 18 at Windward United Church of Christ, 38 Kaneohe Bay Drive.
It will feature the Samoan Gospel Heralds, as well as the Hawaiian Mission Academy Chorale, flutist Sharon Watts and the church Chancel Singers directed by James D. Woods.
Japanese expert talks on Buddhism
A visiting professor from Japan will explore "Buddhist Culture and Social Welfare" in a public lecture Friday at the Buddhist Study Center, 1436 University Ave.
Professor Dosho Wakahara, president of Ryukoku University in Kyoto, will speak, and discussion will follow. The program will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
Lunch will be $7. For reservations, call 973-6555. The event is sponsored by Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii and Ryukoku University Alumni Association of Hawaii.
